Calisthenics Training Anybody can lift weights, real strength is the ability to lift your body Calisthenics are defined as: gymnastic exercises to achieve bodily fitness and grace of movement. Being able to lift your own body weight a number of different ways is instrumental to good fitness. This is a form of training that was spawned from the practise of gymnastics and involves the ability to move and lift one’s own body weight. It is a considered one of the purest forms of strength training because one cannot simply remove weight off the body as easily as scaling down weight on a barbell. At more advanced levels we utilize this concept on our obstacle course, but our beginner classes work to progress you up to that standard. Beginner level:

  • Basic pushups
  • Pushup variations i.e. hand release pushups
  • Pull ups
  • Air squats
  • Toes to bar
  • Lunges
  • Situps
  • Planks
  • Flutter kicks
  • Running
  • Skip rope
  • Hollow hold
Classes used: Functional fitness, Special ops, Strength & conditioning Intermediate level - explosive variations:
  • Clapping pushups
  • Jump squats
  • Jumping pull-ups
  • Jumping high knee
  • Plyo pushups
  • Dips
Classes used: Strength & conditioning, Tactical fitness Advanced level:
  • Pull up/salmon ladder
  • Handstand pushups
  • Rope climbing
  • Wall climbing
  • L – sits (Dip/pull-up)
  • Ring work (Pushups, dips, pull-ups)
  • Muscle ups
  • Deficit pushups
  • Hand stand hold
Classes used: Obstacle course, Special ops, Strength & conditioning All exercises and variations listed above are augmented a number of different ways. Weighing yourself down with vests, belts, chains and rucksacks is one way. Sometimes augmentations take the form of progressions, such as using bands to assist in pull ups and related motions.
