Functional Fitness Training

Functional fitness is by its nature highly dynamic. That’s why this class focuses on the body’s general capabilities, and pays little attention to isolation. We use high intensity cardio elements in combination with skeletal muscles to develop the body’s overall ability to perform. Sprints, rows, weights and calisthenics combined through variable timing schemes make this a challenging program.

The goal of this class is to improve the overall work capacity of the participants. Work capacity can be broadly defined as developing strength while simultaneously improving cardio. While these two elements are often approached individually, training them together makes the foundation of our programming and trains the body to be greater than the sum of its parts.

Work capacity covered in this class is from the LEVEL 1 portion of the Workout of the day (WOD)

In this class, we often work the body’s durability as well, which typically includes additional focus to core, cardio and teamwork development. Elements used:

  • Barbells
  • Dumbbells
  • Compound movements
  • Calisthenics
  • Timing intervals
  • Logs
  • Sandbags
  • Rowing machines
